DRKHRT
DRKHRT: The Duality of Love was a monumental 20-foot steel sculpture that combined fire and light to explore love's transformative power. Created in collaboration with designer/fabricator Matt Bajor (aka UNAUTHORIZED) and supported by The Love Burn festival in Miami, this massive installation merged cutting-edge projection mapping with propane flame effects.
As the projection mapping artist, I transformed Bajor's sculptural vision into a living canvas of light. Working from 3D mockups, I developed custom visuals that reflected the dual nature of love—its capacity for both euphoria and anguish. The audio-reactive projections danced in harmony with the flames, creating an immersive sensory experience that captivated festival audiences.
The technical execution required innovative solutions, including projector stacking to achieve maximum brightness against the competing flame effects, and a sophisticated control system using Resolume Arena/Wire, HeavyM, and TouchOSC for real-time manipulation. The project also involved training on NFPA 160 safety standards for flame effects, expanding my expertise in large-scale installation safety and operation.
DRKHRT demonstrated the power of interdisciplinary collaboration, seamlessly blending physical sculpture, flame effects, and digital artistry into a singular experience that resonated with thousands of festival-goers. DRKHRT’s reception at Love Burn earned it an honorarium at Lakes of Fire festival in Michigan, where it returned as a featured art installation.
