Art At A Distance Grant

In early 2020 much of the art world (music halls, performance spaces, galleries, and museums) had to shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic. In an effort to keep art and collaboration happening in Boston, Cicada launched its Art at a Distance Grant program. A final 10 artists were selected from over 100 applications spanning many different mediums. They were then paired together into random teams and tasked with collaborating together to create one joint art piece, without physically being together.

Damien and the Cicada team partnered with Seedling Creative to help the artists record and document the process against the backdrop of this unique moment in history.  The work culminated in a live, virtual gallery opening event where the artists exhibited their final pieces of work and the audience was shown a glimpse into the successes and struggles of the creative process.
