The TechnoBall

The Technoball debuted at Firefly Arts Collective 2022 in Bethel, Vermont as a new feature of the Diode stage, and has since been featured at numerous events — including the Lakes of Fire festival in Michigan and as a centerpiece above the dance floor at Artisans Asylum's grand reopening celebration.

The Technoball is my futuristic, cyberpunk spin on the classic disco ball, an iconic symbol of the dance floor. I built the sculpture at nearly four feet in diameter, using a steel tube structure and a polypropylene circular hoop to define its shape. Steel rods and polyethylene spacers form the ribs of the sphere, holding 800 individually addressable LEDs. I designed the custom electronics that drive the light show, mapped and programmed patterns using Resolume Arena software.

The installation is currently on display at Artisans Asylum's 96 Holton Street building, where it greets visitors just next to the welcome desk.
